Six local crews. One Saturday. Four creek lines that hadn’t seen a proper clean-up in years. That was the plan for our first joint clean-up weekend, and by Saturday afternoon it had turned into something bigger than any of us expected.
Volunteers from the Ashfield, Riverside, Northgate and Millbrook crews split into teams and worked their way along the waterway, filling close to two hundred bags between them. A few local businesses pitched in with gloves, water, and a sausage sizzle at the end of the day — proof that a clean-up is as much about the neighbourhood showing up for itself as it is about the rubbish.
The rosters for the day were put together and shared through CORE weeks in advance, so every crew leader could see who’d signed up for which shift without a single group text chain. If your group is thinking about a joint clean-up of your own, we’re happy to share what worked.
