50,000 Meals and Counting

When the food relief network started, it was three people, one borrowed van, and a handshake deal with a single bakery willing to hand over the bread it couldn’t sell. Two years on, that same network now works with eleven local businesses and moves surplus food to families across the district most nights of the week.

This month we passed a number that would have sounded made up back then: fifty thousand meals rescued and delivered. Not fifty thousand meals cooked from scratch — fifty thousand meals that were already made, already good, and would otherwise have gone in a bin.

None of that happens without the volunteers who do the actual driving, sorting and delivering, often after a full day at their own jobs. If you’ve got a few hours some evenings and a car, we’d love to talk to you.
